During the pandemic, we have seen a rise in domestic abuse. The Government responded by putting more resources into services and encouraging victims to seek help.
Nickie was extremely proud to sit on the Domestic Abuse Bill Committee, where Nickie was able to secure a vital amendment, to recognise children living in abusive households as victims too, even if not abused themselves.
Nickie knows from those who grew up in such situations that this can have lifelong consequences. It is estimated that up to 30% of children in this country live in a household where abuse occurs. Now that the Domestic Abuse Act is law, children and adults alike will have better protection. Perpetrators will be held to account for their actions. Nickie hopes with her amendment, the cycle of abuse for children will be broken. If you’re affected by domestic abuse, find out where to get help www.nickie.news/DASupport
